A disappointed Aberdeen Women Captain Hannah Stewart reflected on a frustrating afternoon at the Balmoral Stadium where the Dons were held to a 1-1 draw against bottom of the league Dundee United.
“It is a difficult one to access. For a team like Aberdeen the first half is unacceptable. For a team the size of Aberdeen, we can’t accept that. I think we had a reaction in the second half, we controlled large parts. There are still positives, but we need to learn from that first half.”
“It is a great header from Niamh. It puts us right back in it, but to be one nil down is disappointing. We scored at a great time, and like I said we controlled the game in the second half after it.”
“I think we were missing composure in the final third. You can see we are desperate to win, so we were rushing things. We looked panicky in the first half, we looked frantic. We need calmer heads on the ball, and if we did score again, we would have relaxed. We need to make sure we get in front, it looked like there was only one team who were going to go on and win it, and today it just didn’t happen for us.
“We are hurting, From the disappointment of last week and then after we perform like we did today, it is hard. We need to not perform the way we did in that first half. We were slow on the ball, and we were sloppy in possession.”
“These are the teams that are around us in the league. These are the teams that we need to beat if we want to be clear of that relegation zone. To drop points after a positive performance last week, it is hard. We need to learn quick because Hearts on Sunday will be tough. We need to learn from the negatives and move on.”
“We are a young team, so performances like these can happen. We are going to be inconsistent. We are trying new things: there are multiple factors that can lead to a performance like today. I know we can raise our performance, and we will see different results.”
“Aimee Black was good today. It was a new role for her, sitting in front of the defence. She wants on the ball, and she isn’t afraid to put a tackle in, which is what we need. She has taken it in her stride, so she was one of the positives of today.”
