Aberdeen’s sixth addition of the January transfer window is midfielder Dennis Geiger, who arrives on loan from TSG Hoffenheim.

The 27-year-old former German youth international will spend the remainder of the season in Red, with the Dons holding an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

Having sealed his deadline day move, Dennis said:

“I am excited to be here. I can’t wait to meet the people at the club and the fans and learn about the city.

“I know Lutz well from our time at Hoffenheim. He made it clear how much Aberdeen wanted to have me here, so the decision was easy for me.

“It’s the chance for a restart, a new beginning. I want to push myself out of my comfort zone and take on this new challenge.

“I like to be aggressive, but I believe in my technical ability. I’ve got a strong mentality. I want to win in everything I do.

“The Scottish supporters are passionate, and I am looking forward to playing in front of the Aberdeen fans. I’ll give my very best during my time here.”

Geiger has spent more than 16 years with Hoffenheim, having joined the club in 2009 and progressed through their Academy before making his first-team debut in a 1-0 Bundesliga victory over Werder Bremen in August 2017.

Four days later, he made his UEFA Champions League debut away to Liverpool FC at Anfield, in what proved to be his breakthrough season at senior level.

A technically gifted central midfielder, Geiger has gone on to make close to 150 appearances for Hoffenheim across domestic and European competitions, becoming a regular presence in the Bundesliga over the last six seasons.

With opportunities limited for the player this campaign, Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel has moved quickly to secure his services and reunite with a player he knows well.

“Dennis will bring real energy and tenacity to the squad”, said Pfannenstiel.

“I’ve known him since his early years at Hoffenheim, so I know what type of character he is. He has played at the highest level so brings a real pedigree and attributes which I believe can help improve us.”
