Dons continue history of innovation taking disabled ticketing online

Aberdeen FC has a long and proud history of innovation stemming from the introduction of the dugout by Donald Colman in the early 20 th century. That tradition of innovation is a thread that has ran throughout the history of the club and we are pleased to share details of the latest ‘first’ for the club. Earlier this year we trialled the introduction of disabled ticketing online, which saw disabled supporters able to purchase their match tickets online at afc.co.uk/eTickets.

Aberdeen FC has a long and proud history of innovation stemming from the introduction of the dugout by Donald Colman in the early 20th century.

After a successful trial, the initiative is now helping to improve the experience for all Dons supporters who are living with a disability and attending matches home and away.

The innovation has made AFC the first club in Scotland to offer this service which has seen positive feedback from supporters who have been making use of this service on a regular basis and is the first of a number of ideas being put forward by AFC’s Supporter Liaison Officer & Disability Access Officer Lynn Fiske to improve accessibility for all at Pittodrie.

When asked about the introduction of online ticketing for all, Lynn said: “It was something our supporters kept asking us for. They were disadvantaged when they were buying tickets particularly for away games when they are going on sale, they couldn’t buy them that evening the same as all the other supporters. They then had to join a phone queue or an office queue in the morning and in particular for the ambulant disabled they were losing out on a choice of seat.

“It was trialled for the match against Hibs at the end of last season, and it’s live this season. Supporters have been using it for home and away games. Feedback has been that they are over the moon with it, they can go on and they can book their tickets the same as everybody else at the same time: they’ve got the good choice of seats, they’ve no longer got to join queues and at the end of the day it’s about trying to make everything equal and accessible to all supporters so it’s a great step forward.”

Darren is one of many supporters who have been using the service regularly and commented, “It has made a massive difference, the biggest thing for me is the convenience of it all so you can go on the website and within 5-10 minutes you’ve got it done which is a massive difference.

“When it comes to more high profile games so whether it be semi-finals, cup finals, Hearts/Hibs away, the demand is a lot higher so having that convenience to just go on and do it, it makes a massive, massive difference.”
