Friday 29th April saw the second Dementia Friendly Event held at Pittodrie Stadium. The Dementia Friendly Events see residents from various care homes across Aberdeen City, along with participants from AFCCT’s Wider Community Engagement Programmes and key partners, invited to attend a themed afternoon aimed at those living with dementia.
Attendees enjoyed a 1960’s themed event this time around, with singers from the Castlegate Chorus providing entertainment, and light refreshments available through-out. All of the participants were also lucky enough to meet AFC First Team Goalkeeper Scott Brown.
Scott, who only the night before picked up the Community Supporter of the Year Award at the AFC Player of the Year Dinner, is the official Dementia Friendly Communities Player Ambassador for AFCCT. At the event, Scott also helped to launch the latest Dementia Friendly Wellbeing Leaflet which provides information on Health and Wellbeing activities through-out the City.
The Dementia Friendly Events allow those living with dementia to enjoy socialising in a calm and safe environment, as well as to feel integrated within the community; something which becomes increasingly difficult and challenging for the person affected, as well as for their carers.
