David Adams has been recognised for his work in the community as he was presented with the Scottish FA North Region Volunteer of the Year in Youth Football award, during half-time at the FK Ventspils match, for his work with Glentanar Community Football Club.

The Scottish FA Grassroots Awards are sponsored by the Sunday Mail and McDonalds and aim to recognise and reward people across the country that make a difference to Grassroots football in their local community.

David has been an integral part of Glentanar Community Football Club, ensuring the club can provide football to all. Glentanar CFC have been working closely with the Scottish FA and Aberdeen FC Community Trust for the last year and David has been at the forefront of these projects, ensuring that he pushes himself and Glentanar to be the best they can be, always developing and improving.

David has been instrumental in the McDonalds Community Club Project, a club development project run in partnership with the SFA, AFCCT and Aberdeen City Council. The project concentrates on development of the club and the coaches and David has reaped the benefits of this for Glentanar and himself.

Through discussions with Club Officials and the Scottish FA Club Development Officer, David was able to introduce several new initiatives to Glentanar which further helped the development of the club and its coaches.

Having been through most age groups as a coach with his son, David has shown great commitment to the club by returning to the youngest age group to give the new youngsters the chance to play football in their local community.

David knew Glentanar could do more in their local community and with the help of AFCCT and the Scottish FA, they became the first Grassroots club in Aberdeen to receive the Captains of Change project, an equity participation initiative. David also identified that Glentanar needed to become more representative within the local community and so through the Captains of Change project he was able to inform the coaches and players of the different ethnicities in the local area, ensuring that Glentanar CFC was a club accessible to all.

Aberdeen FC Community Trust started a participation centre in the local area to provide free football for children, David attended these sessions as coach and provided the players the opportunity to play at Glentanar, bridging the gap for players to find an appropriate Grassroots Club.

With the help of AFCCT, Glentanar were able to start a new age group with players, all of whom came from the AFCCT participation centre. David was a familiar face for the players after giving up his time to coach at these sessions to help bridge the gap into Grassroots football.

Liam Duncan, Scottish FA Club Development Officer for AFCCT is delighted David has been recognised for his work in the community, “David thoroughly deserves this recognition due to the countless hours he puts in to ensure Glentanar can provide a game for all. David works tirelessly to improve himself and the club, and this award is a great reward for his efforts. David has been an absolute pleasure to work with, and has allowed AFCCT to work together with Glentanar to introduce new projects to improve the work done in the local community, to ensure football is accessible for all children.”

David has dedicated so much time to the community and is an asset to Glentanar CFC.
