Leighton Clarkson has tonight joined English League One side Blackpool on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old departs Pittodrie after a three-and-a-half-year spell in the North-east, which began with a successful loan from Liverpool in 2022 before being made permanent in the summer of 2023.
A history-maker following the Scottish Cup win in 2025, Leighton played 154 times in Red, scoring 18 goals.
“Leighton has been a fantastic servant to Aberdeen,” said Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel.
“He has quality and has provided us with some very special moments in a red shirt. However, he has wanted to secure regular first-team football and we felt this move was the right one for all parties.
“We wish him nothing but the very best at Blackpool.”
After three and a half years at the Dons, Leighton has decided to head back to England for the next stage of his career.
He said: “From the moment I arrived on loan, I felt at home here and I want to thank all the coaches and club staff, both past and present, who have helped me over the years.
“I’ve been fortunate to be part of many dressing rooms, but I have had some special moments with my teammates here and made friends for life, so I want to thank all of them.
“Finally, I want to thank the fans who have given me their full backing since the day I arrived. Pittodrie is a special place, and I leave with lots of happy memories, particularly after the cup win last year. Getting the chance to celebrate with the supporters during the parade is something I will never forget.”
Everyone at Aberdeen FC would like to thank Leighton for his contributions and wish him every success at his new club.
