“It is always tough coming here.
“As the manager said, when you draw Hamilton away in the cup you always know it is going to be a tough one. “Hamilton played well. They play to their strengths. They are always very well organised and I thought the movement of the front two was good. But I thought our back four and the two sitters did a good job and limited the chances.
“I thought we just edged it. Kenny took his chance well. Over the piece I think we just about did enough to deserve it.
“We are learning every time we come here. We have come a few times and dominated possession, creating chance after chance but not managed to score. Tonight was all about the result. Cup games are about winning. You are not interested in playing well and playing nice football. You just want to get the goal that gets you through and we done that.
“Job done.
“We are in the draw for the next round.
“I think the last few games we have created a number of chances, in Europe well, created chances but not taken them. We don’t want to be a team who just scores one goal and holds onto a lead. We know we have the quality to score goals. It is something we will work on in training and we will improve as the season progresses.
“Any cup game against a side in the same league is difficult. It will be another tough game against Motherwell in the cup but this team are capable of getting a result away from home.
“We want to do well in the cups this season but we will not look too far ahead. It would be disrespectful to Motherwell to look too far ahead.
“We spoke about getting back to clean sheets. Since the manager and Tony came in we have always been solid at the back. We have always managed to get clean sheets even when the defence has changed in personnel. It is something we work hard at. So to start the domestic campaign with two clean sheets is pleasing.
“We have a lot of new signings but we kept enough of a core. It makes it easier for the new players to come in and gel quicker and buy into what we are trying to do. It is easier to integrate them. The manager has always signed good players who are the right type and can fit into the changing room as well.
“It is hard to say if the squad is stronger than last season. It is all about opinions. But we have signed quality players. The manger in his tenure has always gone for quality over quantity. Ryan Christie is a good example. He is one of the best players I have ever played with. I cannot express how good he is. He is a great boy off the park as well.”
