Barry Robson announced to his team mates before the match against Ross County that this was to be his final season as a professional footballer, and his game as a player.
“I think it’s the right time for me to stop playing.
“I’ve had a good innings, I’m 38 this year. Somebody told me I’ve played over 700 games so I’ve had a good run at it and I just think it’s the right time.
“It’s been in my mind for a while, I’ve spoken to the manager in depth about a lot of things and I just thought this year was the season.
“I’ve spent a bit of time on the bench when I thought I could play but I just thought to myself it’s time to go onto the next chapter of my life which will be involved in football.
“I want to go on and be involved in the next stage. Hopefully I can do that and be a top manager one day.
“I don’t think it’s any secret that I’m going to stay in the game, everybody knows how big a football man I am!
“There’s nothing concrete on what I am going to do next but i have a few options.”
Barry was asked about his memories of the Aberdeen side he joined back in 2013…
“I think there’s a huge difference, we’ve been in Europe every year. I think you can see the excitement that we’ve brought to the club.
“I think the club’s in great hands with one of the best young managers in the country, and we’ve just revealed the new plans for the stadium and training ground.
“We just have to try and hold onto Derek McInnes for as long as we can. I know Derek as a person and I know he really enjoys working for this club.
“We’ve got internationals playing at Aberdeen again, boys who are getting into the squad. That’s testament to the manager and the players coming in.
“I think it’s a really exciting time for Aberdeen. You think back four or five weeks ago we were going neck and neck with Celtic.
“It’s a huge difference from when I first came in, and it’s all about maintaining that.
“We’ve had a really good campaign and we’ll come back better and stronger next year.”
