Head of Youth and Junior Academies visit Orkney Isles
Aberdeen FC’s Head of Youth Academy, Neil Simpson and Head of Junior Academy, Gavin Levey recently made a flying visit to the Orkney Isles where they were involved in coaching the Under 13s Select squad along with participating in a Q&A session with the local supporters club. This trip was organised by the Orkney AFC Supporters Club who had previously met with the club’s Vice Chairman, George Yule and Director, Ian Jack on their visit to Kirkwall. A positive relationship with the supporters was established, who requested further support in terms of some coaching for the local youngsters, some coach in-service training and the chance for Simmy to visit Orkney shortly after the 30 year anniversary of the European success in Gothenburg.
Neil said, ‘It was great to get the opportunity to visit the supporters and local community in Orkney and to meet some of the fans who have supported the club since childhood. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit and look forward to seeing the Orkney supporters back at Pittodrie for a game next season’. Gavin added ‘We would like to thank the supporters, local coaches and all the young players for making us feel so welcome and it was great to be able to head up there to strengthen the links with Aberdeen FC’.
