Aberdeen FC is proud to be a thriving, community driven football club who aim to have a positive impact far beyond the 90 minutes on the pitch
. We recognise our unique standing in the local community and appreciate the importance of giving something back as we actively engage with the local communities that support and sustain the club.
Here is a small taster of the recent activity that various representatives of the football club have undertaken this past while in our efforts to interact with our local community.
Our AFC Community Trust team recently visited a pensioner’s party in the Bridge of Don. Although the people attending the party were more than happy to see the staff, the main attraction was the League Cup Trophy which accompanied the 2 of them. The delighted guests chatted to our coaches and had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the trophy.
Recently Community Coach Scott Duncan and Community Projects Officer David Smith visited Aberdeen Airport with the League Cup Trophy. The trophy was at the airport for around 2 hours, and lots of holiday makers returning from their Easter Breaks were delighted to be welcomed off the plane with the trophy. Familes, friends, and individuals were all keen to get their pictures taken with the cup, along with plenty of the Aberdeen Airport staff as well. We even had supporters from Derby County and Middlesborugh who were so glad to hear of Aberdeen’s success, and were keen to wish us all the best for the future.
George Yule and the League Cup made an important visit to Woodend Hospital to meet Derek Ledingham who sadly, due to ill health, missed the League Cup Final. Derek has supported the Dons his entire life and is a member of the Granite City supporters club. Everyone at the club wishes Derek a speedy recovery.
The rehabilitation Unit at Woodend Hospital also received a surprise visit from the Cup where the patients had the opportunity to have their photo taken with it.
Niall McGinn paid a visit to Scott Skinner pub in Banchory as he collected his Player of the Year award for last season from the members.
Thanks to the hundreds of supporters who joined us in the Bon Accord Centre yesterday for our League Cup roadshow event. The afternoon was a massive success with fans, young and old, getting their photos taken with the League Cup trophy before meeting members of the League Cup winning side; Andy Considine, Peter Pawlett, Joe Shaughnessy and Cammy Smith. Our AFC Community Trust coaches were also delighted to meet so many youngsters who took part in our FIFA challenge.
Cammy Smith and Clark Robertson went along to the training sessions of our Youth Academy teams and took the League Cup trophy with them to show off to some of our future stars.
George Yule was a guest speaker at the Connect 4 event as part of North East Business Week. George was asked to speak to the gathered audience about the connection between sport and business.
Angus the Bull has done his bit for charity recently when he shared a “pet selfie” to help raise awareness of Mrs Murray’s Cat and Dog Home in Aberdeen, The Home is a place of refuge and shelter for lost and stray dogs and cats in Aberdeen City and Shire. It also takes in animals from their owners, who for a variety of reasons can no longer keep them, and find new homes for them. The home also caters for a variety of small animals who have been abandoned and need to be placed in loving new homes. A group of Fashion management students from RGU are raising money for this fantastic charity and you can visit their Facebook page for more information: facebook.com/rgunorthernlights
