Working together to develop the game in the North East
Aberdeen Football Club and Aberdeen FC Ladies have entered into an agreement that will see both organisations working closely together going forward to assist in the development of the game within the area.
As Pittodrie Vice Chairman George Yule outlines, while there has been an informal link between the clubs for several years, the connection has now been formalised. “The popularity of women’s football is very much on the increase and we see AFC Ladies as being very much part of the AFC ‘football family’ and indeed an important aspect of the AFC brand.
“As part of the new agreement, AFCL will have the opportunity to play small sided games at half time during a home SPL fixture, use of the stadium for publicity and marketing purposes such as their awards night, be given administration and equipment support from ourselves and generally be seen as part and parcel of this club.
“We will assist AFCL with fundraising activities including at least one can collection per season at a home match. AFCL runs thirteen teams at different age groups and from our perspective, this is a significant initiative.”
John Dickie, Chairman of AFCL added. “Aberdeen FC Ladies are delighted with the opportunity to work with Aberdeen Football Club to help grow the girls and women’s game in the North Region. AFCL would like to thank George Yule and AFC for giving the Club this opportunity. Personal thanks go out to those in AFCL both past and present who have helped forge the links with AFC and give their time with the day to day running of Club.”
Aberdeen FC Ladies was formed in January 2011 following the merger of Aberdeen Ladies & Girls FC, Aberdeen City, Aberdeen University and East End Girls FC. The Club runs three senior teams, six youth teams and four primary teams with approximately a hundred and eighty players signed.
