Kevin Nisbet was the player that spoke with the media on Friday morning ahead of Saturday's game against Kilmarnock.

The pressure of playing for AFC

“I think every game you play for Aberdeen, there is pressure. The good thing about football is there’s always another game, and it comes quite quick, which is probably good for us as well.

“We’ve had a tough week results-wise. I thought Sunday, there were really good bits in the game.

“Wednesday was a tough night for us. Obviously, goals change games. I think if Gav scores with the chance that hits the bar, it’s a totally different game, they go up the park and score, and then it is damage limitations.

“We’ve got a big game tomorrow now."

Belief in the group

“I wouldn’t say favourites, but we have really good home form, even though we have lost the last two. But we’re still confident, we’re still believing we can go out and win games, and tomorrow’s a good chance for us to kind of get back on track.

“It’s been good (season so far). Obviously, I think you probably ask me at the wrong time, we've just lost two on the bounce. But apart from that, I think it’s been good. We’re obviously in a cup quarter-final, and if we win the next couple of games, then it turns out to be a really good start to the season.

“It’s all on us now. As I said, our home form’s good, and we’ll try and get three points tomorrow.

“I think we’ve got a lot of quality in there. We’re well drilled. Obviously, we’ve conceded three against Celtic, but in the main, we are a well-drilled, organised side. I think you’ve seen that over the games.

“For us, it’s just about sticking together now. It’s not a crisis because we lost two games. We’ve got a long season ahead of us, so we can’t get ourselves down too much. It’s about focusing on the present now rather than focusing on the past and just trying to get ready for tomorrow."

Personal reflections

“I’ve loved it. I’ve loved every minute, yeah. Off the park and on the park, every time I walk out for each game, it’s a privilege to wear the armband for Aberdeen. So yeah, I’ve loved every minute of it.

“(On goal targets) I’m going to give you the exact same answer. Just ask me at Christmas.

“I think at Aberdeen, you need to win the game regardless of who you play. It’s not a case of, just because Kilmarnock have had a bad start, we need to win. You need to win every single game at Aberdeen, and that’s what the focus is on.

“I think when you see the games we have played, I think when we do get a fast, strong start, we end up kind of controlling the game and winning the game. So for us, it’s about having a fast start and trying to score early."

A big run of games

“It’s about taking it game by game, I think tomorrow’s massive, then we’re going into another massive week before the international break. And if you start picking up points, then the international break, then you’ve put yourself in a really good position to come back and start winning games.

“It was good (playing with Ayoub Mouloua on Wednesday). Obviously, it was the first time me and Ayoub have played together. I think obviously there’s a bit of a language barrier as well that we still want to kind of try and get through. He’s still learning the game as well.

“So I think that puts a bit more onus on the boys that are here to kind of try and help him through that. But we’ve got a lot of strength and depth in the team. As I said, we bring on Mitchy and Toy for a bit of pace as well.

“So we’ve got variety of different players that can play in the same position, but give you something different.

Helping his teammates

“I think even before I was named captain, I think I was doing that anyway. I would always message the new boys as soon as they signed to kind of try and settle them in a little bit, because obviously I know how daunting it is coming into a new team. You don’t really know anyone.

“So I think if someone reaches out and kind of makes them settle a bit more, then it’s easier for them to kind of integrate into the squad. And I think that’s what’s happened. I think the boys have come in and they’ve settled in very well. I think that sets a good step for the rest of the season."

Final reflections

“I don’t think there’s any easy games in this league, to be honest. Even though, as I said, Kilmarnock, they’ve not really started well, they’re still going to go and try and win games.

“So for us, it’s just about focusing on ourselves. It doesn’t really matter who we play. It’s about just trying to get points on the board.”
