AFC 2017 Player of the Year | Andrew Considine

In 2012 Andrew Considine was named the AFC Player of the Year and Players’ Player. Five years on, he has repeated the feat despite very stiff competition this season from a good number of his team mates. After receiving his awards, he spoke to RedTV tonight: “First of all, it is an absolute honour. “The Players’ Player award, to have your team mates think you are the best player over the course of the season is fantastic. It is a privilege to win the award especially on the back of such a strong season. It has been an incredible season so far.

In 2012 Andrew Considine was named the AFC Player of the Year and Players’ Player. Five years on, he has repeated the feat despite very stiff competition this season from a good number of his team mates. After receiving his awards, he spoke to RedTV tonight:

“First of all, it is an absolute honour.

“The Players’ Player award, to have your team mates think you are the best player over the course of the season is fantastic. It is a privilege to win the award especially on the back of such a strong season. It has been an incredible season so far.

“Then to win the Player of the Year award, to have the fans vote for me, is also extremely special. They watch us play week in week out and follow us through thick and thin.

“Ever since I was a young, when I first pulled on a red jersey when I was a 17-year-old, the fans have always been fantastic with me and I really appreciate their support. I can’t thank them enough.

“I am absolutely delighted.

“There were so many players who could have won the award tonight which shows you just how good as season we have had. There is probably a case for a very high percentage of the first team squad to have been in the running. Kenny and Graeme who made the top three have been outstanding. Jonny Hayes this week made the final nominees for the PFA award so it was a shock not to see him on the stage, along with so many other players in this team.

“The boys have been unreal so far this season.

“We still have some very important games to go.

“We let things slip a bit last Saturday but we are ready to bounce back. We have had a good number of training sessions already this week which have been tough. We will make sure we are ready to go on Sunday.

“I love this club and I am really enjoying my football right now.”
