Adam Rooney spoke to RedTV after bagging his second hat-trick of the season.
Adam Rooney scored his tenth goal of the season on Tuesday night in the win over Livingston – quite an achievement to hit double figures at this stage of the season. He also competed his second hat-trick. Over the past decade you could count on one hand the number of Aberdeen players who have taken the match ball home with them, never mind doing it twice in a campaign.
After the League Cup tie Adam spoke to RedTV:
“As a striker it is always nice to get a hat-trick!
“I was fortunate enough to get one earlier in the season as well. The last time I managed to get two in a season was a few years ago for Inverness. It is nice to do that again and hopefully there are more to come this season!
“I thought against Livingston we started the game quite well again, like what we did against Ross County but then we got a bit slack in our play. To be fair to Livingston they are a good side and you could see that. When they started to move the ball about which caused us a few problems.
“Scott Brown made a couple of good saves to keep the score-line at 1-0 and that was important. If they had scored at that point it could have been a different game. Thankfully though we were able to get the second goal which just about killed the match off. The second goal deflated them a bit.
“The gaffer made the point before the game, it took such a long time for the club to win something, we do not want to just hand back the trophy without a fight. We will be doing our very best to keep it. We know it will be very difficult to do this but we just need to take each game as it comes.
“I am not sure at this point how bad the injury is to Ryan Jack. Hopefully it is not too serious as he is a very very important player for us.
“Like Saturday I thought myself and David (Goodwillie) linked well together. We worked hard in training together and we communicated well together on the pitch.
“He put me through in the first half and I probably should have scored but then he set me up for my first on the hour mark. It was a great back heel from David. He has very good vision. He is always looking to try and play people in.
“It is not just the understanding myself and David have now, he is building up a very good understanding with all the players. I hope we get the chance to play together more often but whoever plays up there I am sure will do a job for the team.
“The last three home games have seen us keep three clean sheets and score nine goals. Hopefully we can get can continue that form on Saturday in what is a very big game.”
