Accies Post Match | Anthony O'Connor

“It was great to get the win and to score in any game is always nice. “Coming back off a European game a few days ago, coming back early in the morning, we knew it was going to be tough mentally and tough on legs. Hamilton had a full week to prepare for this game. It was tough trying to get ready and prepare properly for today’s game and we knew we would have to match their competitiveness and the real aggression that they show. “I think we did that today. “We made it hard for ourselves at times but I think we will only get better and stronger as the season goes on.

“Greg Tansey has a good delivery of a football.

“I knew he would whip it into an area so I just tried to get across my man and the ball come my direction and I just helped it on. Luckily for me it went in the corner. I always say though that it does not matter who gets the goals, as long as well get the win. The cleansheet was a nice extra bonus.

“It was not the most convincing win and we made it hard for ourselves at times but we will take it. “We built on it and we now face Hamilton again.

“Scott Wright showed in the Partick game last season what he do. Everyone is expecting to see a lot more of him this season. When you come in and score a hat-trick people are going to expect things from you. Scott is a level-headed lad. He can take that pressure on his shoulder and I think he showed that today. He had some nice bits of play. He is an old head on young shoulders. He plays with a maturity and hopefully as the season goes on he will get more and more chances and he will get better and better.

“Miles has had a tough time since he has been here. He has not played as many games as he would have wanted to but all the lads are delighted that he came on today and scored his goal.

“Every game is different. Wednesday night is away from home. Playing on an artificial pitch. It is a night time game so there are a lot of different things which are going to come into play. It is a venue we struggled at last season and we know Hamilton will again make it very difficult for us.

“We have to try and rest up as much as we can as there is a quick turnaround. We have to try and get as much rest into the legs as well can. Last season we went down there twice and lost twice despite finishing well ahead of them in the league. So we know it will be a very tough game.

“Today’s game will count for nothing in terms of how Wednesday will go. It is another 90 minutes and we have to match what we did today and produce even more of a performance if we want to move into the next round of the cup.”
