An Aberdeen Development Side came from 1-0 down at half-time to defeat Dyce FC by three goals to one at a rain soaked and windy Ian Mair Park in the second round of the Aberdeenshire Cup on Wednesday night.

Fergus Alberts headed the hosts into an early lead, but second half goals from Brendan Hamilton, Fletcher Boyd and Adam Emslie ensured it was the Dons who would progress.

A now familiar looking development side included Dylan Lobban who took the armband, with the on-loan Cove Rangers pair Findlay Marshall and Emslie both involved from the start. In the absence of Alfie Bavidge, Fraser Mackie led the Line up front.

A first half that saw little chances until a late flurry towards the end of the 45 started with Emslie’s cross causing the Dyce defence some issues to deal with, the ball eventually cleared.

It was the hosts who did open the scoring, number nine Alberts in the ninth minute headed Dyce in front with a looping effort that wound up over Vitols, the forward on the end of a good cross.

The first meaningful Aberdeen chance came the way of Cammy Wilson who needed to head downwards but instead headed upwards and over as the winger got on the end of Emslie’s cross from the opposing flank.

A long range effort from Stewart called Morgan Cook into action for the first time, the hopeful effort comfortably held by the former Inverurie stopper.

Hamilton’s freekick from a dangerous area could only bounce off the head off a Dyce defender in the wall who didn’t know much about his attempt of a block. It was a successful one nonetheless as the game which was being played in difficult conditions with swirling wind and rain, rumbled on.

Fraser Mackie latched onto a ball over the top and could have had a great chance to level, but with the ball always sliding away from him on the wet surface the forward was unable to take it down and the hosts survived.

One more good chance before the end of the 45: Another free-kick in a great area, Stewart this time well over in a trademark position  from the dead ball specialist.

The Dons ended the half much stronger than they had started it, but ultimately it was Dyce that led the contest at the interval.

Half-time. Dyce 1-0 Aberdeen.

It was really all Aberdeen in the second half and in the end, they had largely deserved their spot in the next round.

There was a bit of quality from Wilson to start the period, he cut inside and danced through a sea of defenders but could only blaze his shot wide.

Up the other end Dyce came as close as they could in the second half with a free-kick which went looking for Rodrigo Vitol’s bottom corner, but could only wind up narrowly wide.

It was Hamilton who found the leveller after 65 minutes, the Northern Irish youth international was lurking at the back-post and was able to fire a powerful effort from close range across goal and into the back of Cook’s net.

Just five minutes later the Dons had turned things around entirely.

Boyd received the ball from Mackie and capped off an excellent attacking Aberdeen move by calmly sending his effort into the far corner.

Ellis Clark was introduced for the final portion and his impact was near immediate, his cross eventually found the feet of Emslie who capitalised on a blocked shot to follow in and put the cup tie to bed in the 82nd minute.

Joseph Teasdale, Zak To and Timothy Akindileni all were introduced for the closing minutes as the Dons sealed progression to the third round of the Aberdeenshire Cup.

The young Dons will once again face off against Banks O’Dee in the next round following their impressive 4-0 victory over Formartine tonight.
