Last week we were pleased to bring you the news that Joe Lewis would be leading The Dons this season as Club Captain. Joe led the side to victory in his first match as Club Captain with a 2-1 win over RoPS Rovaniemi and will be looking to complete the job later this week as the team head to Finland.
Looking ahead to the rest of the season we asked Joe to sum up his feelings on being made Club Captain and outline his ambitions for the season ahead with a message for Dons supporters around the world.
“I am proud and honoured to have been named captain for the season ahead.
“Since my arrival at the club I have struck up a great relationship with the fans and that has really helped me. When I joined I was in a position in my career where I wasn’t really going anywhere, I was just trying to find my place and establish myself once again as a goalkeeper.
“That was my sole aim when I first came to Aberdeen but it has brought so much more for me and my family. I have a great relationship with the fans and the city, I love living here. I have been shown great faith by the manager, enjoy a great rapport with the support and my family is settled so it has been a fantastic move for me.
“That’s why I committed my long-term future here and to become club captain three years after first signing is something that I am hugely proud of.
“It’s not just about me, we have a fantastic group of players who all know their place as role models, with many of them leading on and off the pitch without the armband.
“We have a great dressing room and I think that’s testament to the recruitment that has been done by the manager, ensuring we have a real honesty and integrity throughout the team.
“The support we have had at times over the past few years around the City has been incredible and I am hugely excited about the season ahead. I know that great things can be achieved with everyone pulling in the same direction.
“It would be one of the proudest moments of my life to lift a trophy as captain of this football club and that’s something that I will be striving to do along with the rest of the squad, we all want to bring success to the City and entertain the supporters.”

Join Joe at Pittodrie next season!
With just a few weeks to go until our league opener against Hearts at Pittodrie there is still time for supporters to sign-up for the campaign ahead as season ticket holders with the target of reaching 10k season ticket holders in sight once again.
Season ticket holders play a vital role as we look to make our home advantage at Pittodrie count, backing the team week-in week-out throughout the season at every home league match.
Over the summer the squad has been bolstered by the signings of Ryan Hedges, Curtis Main, Ashton Taylor, Jon Gallagher, Greg Leigh, Craig Bryson, James Wilson and the recent acquisition of Funso Ojo. The management team, Derek McInnes and Tony Docherty have also committed their future to the club signing contract extensions until the summer of 2022!
Towards the end of the season the club was boosted by Joe Lewis committing his future to Aberdeen along with Shay Logan. The emergence of promising young talents and the signings already made, as well as ongoing work to add further quality to the squad gives us every confidence that this season will be one to remember for Dons supporters.
Current sales are sitting at 9,400 and as we look to strengthen the squad further over the coming weeks we are calling on all Dons supporters to take their place alongside our new signings at Pittodrie as season ticket holders, with the aim of reaching 10k once again before the start of the Scottish Premiership season.
