On 6th September 1967 The Dons took part in European competition for the 1st time fresh from a summer trip to America under the guise of the Washington Whips. The Dons were matched up with Icelandic side KR Reykjavik in the European Cup Winners Cup and blew their opponents away with a club record 10-0 victory over at Pittodrie.
As the 50th anniversary of that match approaches we invite you to join us here at Pittodrie on Wednesday 6th September to take a look back at our illustrious European history with AFC legends from throughout the decades.
On the night we will be joined by Jim Whyte, Ally Shewan, Tommy Macmillan, Paddy Wilson, Jimmy Smith and Jimmy Wilson who were part of the side that played in 1967 to kick things off.
From there we will hear from two Dons goalscoring greats, Joe Harper and Drew Jarvie about their experiences from when the European giants started to make their way to Pittodrie.
On the night we will also hear from Neil Simpson and John Hewitt who played a significant part during some of our finer European moments, including of course, glory in Gothenburg and the subsequent Super Cup success that followed.
From there we will hear from Derek Young on his European experiences with the club since the turn of the millenium with a focus on the 2007-08 campaign. More speakers are set to be confirmed over the next few days here and on our social media channels.
Tickets for the event are priced at £17 and will include a pie and a drink on the night with all profits being split equally between AFC Youth Academy & AFC Heritage Trust.
Tickets are available to book online now at afc.co.uk/eTickets, over the phone and in person from the Pittodrie Ticket Office.
Event start 7pm (6.30pm arrival) and will close at 10pm.
