Aberdeen 1-0 Motherwell | match summary
Aberdeen won their second league game of the season thanks to James Wilson’s goal in the 6th minute. Making his home debut, the Man Utd striker latched onto a Niall McGinn through ball and produced a great touch and finish.
Carl McHugh clipped the top of the cross bar with a shot from distance but apart from that there were few goalscoring chances during the rest of the half.
At the start of the second period the visitors enjoyed a good spell, but the Dons defence held tight.
After an hour Trevor Carson was incredibly fortunate to see a Gary Mackay-Steven shot slip under his body but the ball just trickled past the post.
On 76 minutes Aberdeen should have added a second after a quick break but Anderson fired wide.
Motherwell, who always looked dangerous from set plays, caused a few nervous moments in the closing stages but McKenna and Devlin were rock solid throughout and when called upon Lewis made a couple of good saves – most notably from Cadden in the 89th minute.
Not a classic, but three points and attention can now turn to Tuesday’s League Cup Quarter Final at Easter Road.
