Aberdeen this morning have added to their Development Squad for the season with the capture of English midfielder Morgan Brown. The 18 year old had been on trial at Pittodrie and impressed whilst playing in a number of pre-season friendlies. Morgan was born in Leicester and was part of his home town’s Academy until the end of last season.

Paul Sheerin told afc.co.uk:

“Morgan did brilliantly in his week here, was excellent at Inverurie and showed a different side to his game at Arbroath.

“He complemented Dean Campbell in the middle of the park in both matches and we’ve definitely seen enough to know that he will add an extra bit of quality to the squad.”

The new signing also spoke to the AFC website after putting pen to paper:

“I am Leicester born and bred and was part of the Leicester City Academy from the age of seven, so I was with the club for over ten years.

“Leicester have strong youth sides and last season were third in the U23 league, only three points behind Arsenal who won it. We also had a decent U18 side but it is hard for young players in England to force their way into the first team squad.

“I did train with them a couple of times, mainly during an international week when some players were away playing for their countries and that definitely gave me a taste for it.

“To be part of the club when they won the English Premier League was very special, especially as a local lad. The atmosphere around the place was incredible. There was such a buzz and it is something I will always remember. It showed me that anything in football is possible.

“The move to Aberdeen came a bit out of the blue but I really enjoyed my week here on trial. Everyone made me so welcome and I was really impressed with how the club was run.

“It was good to score and get an assist in the first game at Inverurie. That certainly helped me settle in and feel part of things.

“It was great to see Bruce Anderson, whom I played with twice, doing so well at the weekend. Only last week he was scoring against Inverurie before netting a hat-trick at Arbroath – then he is scoring the last minute equaliser against Rangers. When he came on I wanted him to do well and he certainly did that! It just shows that young players here do get a chance if they are good enough and that is a huge incentive for everyone in the Development Squad. I played alongside Dean Campbell in midfield and I know that he has also featured for the senior side.

“I have signed a one year deal, so I know that I need to get my head down and work hard and show the coaches what I can do. The club are still awaiting international clearance but hopefully I will be able to play on Tuesday when we face Raith Rovers in the IRN-BRU Cup.”
