Finding consistency

“That’s probably one thing we’ve not done (built a consistent run of wins). We’ve not gone and got that second win, third win in a row. I’m really, really pleased with the reaction in the second half, and I’m really proud of the players for how they’ve responded. “And we get a good result, and obviously we want to follow that up on Saturday against Dundee United. “We’ve lost one game in six, so we’re okay. We know that we can be better. We’ve conceded the third-fewest goals in the league outside of Rangers and Celtic, so there’s a lot of positives, a lot of good stuff. “It’s getting that balance right between attack and defence, and we’re still trying to tweak that, still trying to find that, with a brand-new, a completely new squad, really. We’ve lost one in six. So it’s getting the balance right. It’s improving, and I’m really pleased with the players in terms of the reaction, their desire, and the will to learn and keep getting better.

Dundee United

“People have said Dundee United had a brilliant start, which they have. Jim’s done a very good job but yet we’re only one point behind them. It’s an opportunity for both clubs to make sure they’re in the top six by the end of the game programme tomorrow. And certainly that’s what we aim to do tomorrow."

Team news

“We’ve got a virus going through the club, unfortunately. It’s been all week, so we’ve had various players miss training, and that’s ongoing at the moment, unfortunately. So some people are coming down with things today, and some of them are recovering from earlier on in the week. So that’ll be a last-minute decision in terms of the team."

Building on Saturday's win

“Very, very important. As I said, we haven’t been able to follow up a really good result with another really good result. You know, it’s maybe been a draw or a loss after that. “Momentum’s everything. So we’ve lost one in six: won three, drew two, lost one. So we’re doing okay. We’re starting to get a little bit of consistency. It’s now trying to get those consecutive wins in a row, and that’s not easy. “When you do that in the Premiership, then you cement your place and you get that momentum going. So a really important game for us tomorrow. “It’s cementing your position higher up the league. You’re not continually looking over your shoulder. We’re one point behind Dundee United. They will feel probably exactly the same. “They’ve had a good start. We’re one point behind them, and we’re perceived to not have had a good start. So it depends which narrative you want to go with. But I know as a result, tomorrow will be really, really important for both teams."

The process

“I believe we’re right at the very start of a process. When you sign the amount of players that we’ve signed, a lot of players, I think we’ve got 10 or 11 players on free transfers, and a couple of players in Tony and Ayoub, who we feel will be top, top players going forward, but it takes time. It’s a different culture, different expectations.

“We’re at the beginning with this squad. I have a real belief in them. I love them to bits. I love working with them. They give me energy every day that we come in here.

“I really believe that we’ll get better and better as the season progresses."
