Defender Mats Knoester joined The Dons on the 3rd of February 2025. Knoester began his career in the Feyenoord youth academy and developed there for 14 years before moving to Heracles in 2019. Spending three years with the Eredivisie side, he moved to Hungary in 2022 signing for Ferencvaros. Mats won the NBI league with Ferencvaros in May 2023 before joining Aarhus Gymnastikforening (AGF) in Denmark later that year on a one-year loan deal with a purchase option. Knoester made his debut in our 3-0 win over Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup, the defender going on to play a key role in our successful cup campaign that ended with The Dons lifting the famous trophy. He was rewarded for a stellar start to life in Scotland with a contract extension lasting until 2029.
