Alongside his brother Andrew, Graeme Shinnie grew up in Aberdeen and played local boys club football before joining Inverness CT. After a short loan spell at Forres Mechanics, Shinnie established himself in the Inverness CT first team. A talented left back, Graeme was part of the first Inverness team to reach a major Cup Final, although they lost to Aberdeen in the 2014 League Cup Final. He became captain that summer and led Inverness CT to the Scottish Cup Final where a 2-1 over Falkirk had Shinnie walking up the Hampden steps to lift the Scottish Cup. Shinnie joined The Dons that summer and has played most of his Aberdeen career in the heart of midfield. A fans favourite, Graeme shows passion and backs it up with a tremendous amount of ability. He took over the captancy at Pittodrie ahead of the 2017 Scottish Cup Final at Hampden. Graeme left Pittodrie in the summer of 2019 when he joined English Championship side Derby County on a pre-contract. He joined Wigan Athletic in January 2022 and helped them to promotion from League 1 back to the English Championship. In January 2023 it was announced that Graeme had agreed to re-join Aberdeen on loan until the end of the 2022/23 season. He made his second debut for the club in our 2-0 victory over St Johnstone two days later. In the summer of 2023, Graeme permanently re-joined the Dons on a three year contract and was appointed as club captain. The captain sealed his place in the Aberdeen FC history books after lifting the Scottish Cup on the 24th May 2025 with his hometown club.
