Aberdeen U18s lost their first game of the year as a Jack Thomson hat-trick gave Celtic maximum points at Lennoxtown. Joseph Teasdale continued his fine goal scoring form, netting midway through the second half, his seventh goal in four matches.

Scott Anderson made two changes to the side who defeated Hamilton Accies last week, Ellis Clark and Fletcher Boyd returning to the starting line-up in place of Tristian Stephen and Sam Payne.

There was nothing of note really from either side in the first half hour. Aberdeen had forced a series of corners but were unable to work any clear openings. They did try one short corner which allowed Clark to get a shot away but his effort was blocked.

The home side then took the lead on 35 minutes when Thomson opened the scoring, and then the same player gave Celtic a two goal advantage right on the stroke of half-time. A big blow for Aberdeen.

Half-Time: Celtic 2 Aberdeen 0

After the break the young Dons were better, and looked more threatening. On the hour mark a ball over the top allowed Teasdale to use his pace and the striker did well to work a chance but his lob over the keeper was not quite high enough. However a few minutes later the striker was not to be denied.

Substitute Bradley Chikomo produced a fine and low cross on the right which Teasdale stabbed home.

The visitors then pushed hard for an equaliser but with five minutes remaining, as Aberdeen had bodies forward, Celtic broke and Thomson netted his third to seal the win. Overall a disappointing performance from the young Dons who have been in good form of late.

Scott Anderson’s side are back on their travels on Tuesday when they take on Motherwell at K-Park with the game kicking-off at 2pm.
