Aberdeen were quickly back to winning ways after last Saturday’s disappointment at Hampden, but Jimmy Thelin was as pleased with the performance as the result as his side thumped Dundee 4-1.
“Every game is difficult, the performance was the most important thing to get right to get the result, and again the character of the team is so good, how they find their way back in games. It was a difficult first half, we were quite open in our structure, the organisation was not really where we wanted it to be.
“Dimi saved the penalty, so we could stay in the game in a good way, and then the fans when we went into half-time, they stayed with us and supported us, even if it was not the perfect half. We talked in the dressing room, adjusted small things, no panic, but looking to find better rhythm inside the game, and more stability in how to defend the transitions.
“I think the players answered really well, and that says a lot about the character of the players, and then of course we scored important goals, again the players who come into the pitch make a huge impact too, so it’s nice to see how the players, the team spirit they have.
“Dundee were good, they have a good manager and they have ideas. We were struggling, the game was quite open, we also had some chances, they had some chances, it was back and forth, and then the penalty was an important moment in the game, but that’s why I’m even more proud of the players today and our supporters, how we stayed focused on the right things and go out in the second half, as we did today, and win the game.”
Another packed Pittodrie played its part in keeping the Dons on track through a feisty first half and Jimmy was quick to praise their contribution.
“We have to use this spirit we have in Pittodrie right now, how the fans and supporters have built this spirit for us to play in front of them, a sell-out again, the fourth game in a row. They play a big part for us.”
Kevin Nisbet returned from injury to set up a goal and then score one himself after coming on as a second half sub, and the number nine looked hungry to be in the middle of things again.
“I think it was the best performance so far from Kevin. His intensity, his awareness, his work rate, responsibility, it was good to see that, and it’s good work from the medical team also to get him back so fresh.”
