The Vattenfall Award of the Month recognises outstanding commitment to the girls’ game from an individual, whether that be a player, coach or volunteer.

The winner of the October 2019 Award goes to Zahra Shehu!

Zahra currently plays for Mile End Girls, a school team that play within the Girls League, at the U11s age group, despite being a couple years younger than most of her teammates.

Euan Esslemont, Coach for Mile End Girls, spoke highly of Zahra’s work ethic and desire to improve, as well as her attitude;

“Zahra meets me with a broad smile every time she comes to training or matches. She is constantly wanting to learn all aspects of close ball control and loves to incorporate clever turns and often a trick or two. Zahra is constantly up against girls up to 3 years older than her, and much taller, but this does not deter her from taking them on!

Zahra is a brilliant example to all other players in the group – it is so entertaining and rewarding to watch her learn and grow as a young player.”
