Assistant Manager previews Kilmarnock

“What was particularly pleasing was the way we approached the game. The game was going a certain way- I thought we were the dominant team. I felt their goal galvanised us and to respond the way we did- with United shooting down the hill, us shooting into our fans- was a great response from the players and I think we got the two goals we deserved.

“There is a real strong mentality and a winning way about them. We are delighted that we’ve got the trust in our players and they demonstrated that yesterday in their endeavour, desire and their will to win – I thought that was what got us over the line.

“We can only make sure we have a winning team and we are preparing our team to win every game- we’ll see where that takes us. Privately we’ve maybe got targets but we’re not putting anything out there. We’ll just take it game by game, it was a good result yesterday but we’ve moved on from that now; we’ve got the boys in to prepare for the Kilmarnock game and we just need to keep going in that way and see where it takes us.

“Kilmarnock are a team that are doing well just now- they’ve won three of their last six. They’ve got a striker in Boyd, who has scored 11 goals now. We have to focus all our energies on that and make sure that we are right in every area of the pitch. Preparation starts for that today.

“Anybody that’s scoring that number of goals is a good player [Kris Boyd]. They’ve got good players in their team, the young lad Johnston is doing well also, but we need to make sure – like we do for every game – that we are right and we will endeavour to do that and pick up three points away from home again.

“Yesterday was a physical battle and with the conditions as well, a few boys have taken knocks but the game is on Sunday so we’ll have them in and assessed and hopefully it’s just bruising and they will be able to go again.”
