Midfielder Toni Leigh Finnegan sat down before training to look ahead to AFC Women’s match against Motherwell at the Balmoral on Sunday.
Reflections on last week
“Sunday was a frustrating one. We know that is a team we should be beating. We had all the information, we knew what we were doing going into the game, and we knew how we could beat them if we did things right. But there were some individual errors and collective areas that we’re working on and hopefully can improve on for Sunday.
“I feel like over the past few weeks we’ve maybe just been parking things and moving on, but after Sunday we knew we had to sit as a collective and talk about it and get things off our chest. That’s something we did on Wednesday. The negativity is done with and we’re looking towards Sunday in a more positive light, knowing what we need to do collectively to go and win.”
League position
“We’ve got two games coming up and if we win them both, the world is a much better place. Things can change very quickly, and it can be a much nicer picture for us all.
“We have time left to get out of where we are currently and I really do believe we can. We have the squad to do it, it’s just about getting rid of the silly errors that have been happening.
“It’s hard because every week we’re talking about goals that we probably shouldn’t be losing. It’s frustrating.
“I think the whole league would be shocked at where we’re sitting at the minute, including ourselves. Nobody going into the season would have thought Aberdeen would be second from bottom with this squad. Especially when you look at our performances against the top teams where we’ve done well, we give a good account of ourselves”
Sunday at home
“We need to get out of this rut. Sunday is massive, it can be the catalyst for us.
“It’s going to be a tough game. Motherwell will know that we’re struggling a bit at the minute, but we’ve sat as a group this week, we’re looking at things more positively now, and it’s a huge game. I know we can do well.
“It’s a very young group. That’s something I try to help with. When you’re getting beat often, it’s easy to fall into negativity. Sitting together yesterday and calling each other out on things that need to be better definitely helped ahead of Motherwell.
“Now we’ve had those difficult conversations we have to be more positive with each other, because if not, we’re not going to get results.”
