ABERDEEN 3 ST MIRREN 1 SPFL Premiership Saturday October 17 2026 Pittodrie Ref: John Beaton Attendance: 17,020 A strong second half performance from the Dons got them back to winning ways with a solid victory over St Mirren at Pittodrie. Following the 1-0 defeat at home to St Johnstone last Saturday, the Dons made four changes to the starting XI. Jack Milne, Gavin Molloy, Findlay Marshall and Ayoub Mouloua were on the bench with Lewis Mayo, Toyosi Olusanya, Lewis Smith and Afeez Aremu coming into the side. St Mirren were beaten 5-0 at Tynecastle last Saturday and made three changes, Luke Thomas, Marcus Fraser and Eseosa Sule returning to the team in place of Henry Fieldson, Fraser Taylor and Chris Mochrie. The final game at Pittodrie before the clocks go back and we set off into the winter started in glorious sunshine and inside two minutes, Aberdeen were in front with a glorious goal. A great pass forward from Mats Knoester was taken nicely by Lyons just inside the opposition half and he brought the ball forward before exchanging passes with Connor Ronan. Getting it back, some 25 yards out on the left side of the area, Lyons came inside, then produced a glorious strike across goal, over Chapman and in off the bar, in front of a delighted Red Shed. Half chances came and went for Smith and Olusanya in the first 15 minutes, as Aberdeen were happy to let St Mirren have the ball where they could do no damage. The Buddies very nearly did cause trouble in the 16th minute though, a low pull-back from Kabia giving Phillips a clear shot at goal from eight yards. Muller saved well with his feet on the line, but the ball flew back to Phillips. He was slow to react and Knoester was able to swoop down and block the second effort. That heralded a good spell from the visitors where they penned Aberdeen back, but the Dons kept a good shape to deny them a clear opening. A quick one-two between John and Thomas on 27 saw John in behind the defence, but presented with a tight angle, he slashed the ball into the side netting. A minute later, a cross to the back post found Sule, and Marius Muller was at full stretch to just about claw the ball to safety. There were real danger signs for Aberdeen at this point. They responded with a glancing header from Kevin Nisbet from a Smith cross on the half hour, a comfortable save for Chapman. There was another chance for Nisbet on 34, a lovely cross from Nesta Guinness-Walker giving him the chance of a diving header, but he guided his effort across goal and wide. Just prior to that, Carr was the first to be booked, a late tackle on Lyons in the 32ndminute. Muller was in sharp action again after 34 minutes, diving away to his right to tip a curling shot from Thomas behind for a corner. There was no stopping the Buddies on 42 though. A long ball forward found Thomas on the edge of the box. He held it up then released Phillips down the left edge of the Aberdeen box. His low cross was into the path of Sule and his drive was too powerful for Muller to keep out. Olusanya’s strength was too much for Gogic in the final minute of the half, the ball falling nicely for Nisbet, but he didn’t get enough on his shot and it was an easy take for Chapman. HALF-TIME: ABERDEEN 1 ST MIRREN 1 Stuart Armstrong and Tony Yogane joined the fray at the break in place of Ronan and Lyons. Yogane had a golden chance to open his Aberdeen account in the 50th minute. Real persistence by Chris Cadden gave him half a yard to loop a pass through the area to Yogane just inside the box. He took it first time on the volley, but put his shot just over the bar. A Nisbet shot on 52 from the edge of the box looked to have hit Gogic on the arm, but Aberdeen continued to play, culminating in a Smith cross that Armstrong ticked away at the second attempt, only to find the offside flag going up. Nsio collected a booking on 56, taking a chunk out of Yogane as he prepared to shoot from the edge of the box. A VAR check for a penalty followed, to see if the offence was just inside the area, and referee Beaton eventually pointed to the spot. Nisbet fired a low effort to the goalkeeper’s right and Chapman managed to get a hand to it, but as the rebound came back out, Nisbet was fastest to react and clipped the ball over the prone goalie to restore the lead. Thomas was replaced by Ramos as the sides lined up for the kick-off. There were more penalty calls in the 64th minute, Olusanya darting into the box only to be barged off the ball by John, again nothing given. Nsio made way for Taylor after 67 minutes. Aberdeen responded by bringing on Ayoub Mouloua four minutes later, Olusanya coming off. It took him less than a minute to make his mark, a quick free-kick from Aremu slotting Mouloua through as the St Mirren defence went to sleep. Advancing into the box, he stepped inside Gogic and drove his shot across Chapman and inside the far post, 3-1 Aberdeen. Sule was replaced by Young in the Buddies’ last change on 74, before Emmanuel Gyamfi returned to action in place of Smith two minutes later. Armstrong was booked a minute later for a foul on Kabia. The Dons could have had a fourth on 82. Mouloua won the ball deep in his own half to feed Armstrong. His slide rule pass got Nisbet away, but a heavy touch gave Chapman the chance to get off his line and smother. Aremu drove forward in the 86th minute, finding Mouloua down the left. His cross reached Yogane, but his shot from just inside the box was deflected behind. The Dons brought on Marshall for Nisbet in the third minute of added time, Muller clutching a Taylor drive seconds later as Aberdeen saw the game out to collect three important points.
