The Managers Pre Match Media Conference

Derek McInnes on RedTV “With the game on Monday we had a recovery session on the Tuesday, we had an U20s game on Tuesday as well so Wednesday was a day off for most and then we have picked up on things today. We have highlighted things that need to be improved from the game against Hibs but we do that after every game. Even if you win a game you look at what aspects you can improve. “There was some things that we can be encouraged from the game but as I said the better players in both sides were in defence. “With the game on Monday we had a recovery session on the Tuesday, we had an U20s game on Tuesday as well so Wednesday was a day off for most and then we have picked up on things today. We have highlighted things that need to be improved from the game against Hibs but we do that after every game. Even if you win a game you look at what aspects you can improve.

“There was some things that we can be encouraged from the game but as I said the better players in both sides were in defence. We have to try and find a way to win. Let’s see if we can go at step better on Saturday.

“The result and performance was symptomatic of where we are in the table at the moment and was similar to a lot of games we have played this season. We are at a level where there are no easy games regardless of who we are playing. We have to try and get ourselves to a level, individually and as a team where we can maintain a standard and therefore not worry who the opposition is and do enough on the day to win the game. Kilmarnock will be a tough match, as will every game be between now and the end of the season.

“Kilmarnock are not on the best run of late but they are a good side with good strikers and players like Boyd who can score a goal out of nothing.

“There is a lot to be pleased with. We have some good players here, there are a lot of good youngsters and we can take heart from every U20 game we have watched as there is a lot to be encouraged about. There is a basis of a good squad but we need to try and get the best out of the current squad between now and the end of the season.

“We want to finish in seventh spot. Where we finish will not affect my budget for the summer – it would not have changed regardless of whether we finished in the top six or bottom six. I have figures I am working towards. We want to try and finish as high as we possibility can though. We recognise the responsibility to do that. Every penny is important to us as it is every club.

“There is a balance between trying to go out and win games and have a look at players who are out of contract or have a look at young players. Hopefully we will get the balance right in the final four games.

“We will try and give an opportunity to the players who are out of contract and we will blood some of the youngsters as well. We will look at some of the young boys who we think might be part of the squad for next season to see how they do.”
