Barry Robson spoke to RedTV after the Dons victory over Turriff United on Wednesday night.

“We looked sharp.

“We did five double sessions going into the game, so they went into the match tonight heavy legged. But I thought they responded quite well and looked a bit sharper than I thought they would at this stage.

“I think everyone could see the movement and the speed we were passing the ball but that only comes when you press and counter press well. That is the bit maybe people don’t see, but that was the bit I was pleased with. They really struggled against us when we got the ball back, we really went after them.

“But you have to give credit to Turriff, it was difficult for them, but I thought they did really well in the first half.

“It is still pre-season, we have put a lot of work into the players and it is only the first game, everyone got forty five minutes in to their legs and we go again at the weekend and we will see where we are at. We will do another double session on Friday and I am pretty pleased with how they are looking.

“I loved the way Ester played, always on the shoulder of the defender, and the runs he made were dangerous. He wants to cause problems and wants to get after the opposition which is important for our team. Also his goals, you can see the quality he has. He is not going to get chances like that every week but we are really pleased with him and the minute. He will still need time to adjust but you can see how sharp he is.

“Shayden, the four or five weeks we have had with the player in pre-season, we have put a yard on him. He is electric when he gets going. You can see we have tried to make all the players a bit quicker and more aggressive, able to move the ball quicker. All these things, that is what we are trying to do during pre-season.

“We are pleased with how they performed and we now look forward to the trip to Fraserburgh.”
