“I’ve not seen it but my first thought was that it was a penalty, I have played against Lee Miller so I know he is good at that! Thankfully Scott has saved it and redeemed himself because it was a moment of rashness as there didn’t seem to be too much danger. Donervorn had a solid header and Scott obviously felt he could come out and deal with it but with a bit of hindsight I think he would stay on his line now. He has ended up saving the penalty and has went from villain to hero in 30 seconds and you could see what that meant to his teammates when they were celebrating with him at the end. I am pleased for him. Scott has not had much to do today apart from a good strike by young Slater.
“We kept Kilmarnock at arms-length for the majority of the game apart from maybe at the end. I thought coming here as the away team it was a very assured and dominant performance in terms of possession. We had chances and I thought we were guilty today of not making more of our set plays although Rooney did score from the free kick. I thought we were also guilty of not putting the ball in early enough when we got up the pitch. Some of build-up play was very good, Hayes and McGinn both came over their sides very well and it was good to watch but as I say we did not get enough early balls in. The second goal was an example of what we should have being doing more. McGinn beats the full back and gets an early ball in. We should have done more of that in the final third.
“However I still think it was a very strong Aberdeen performance.
“We did not even mention the score yesterday. We have gained two points on the two teams closest to us. I cannot see Celtic losing the lead they have. They have looked very strong recently and very good since October. We are just delighted to get to 68 points – the same points tally as we had last season. To reach that with six games to go in testament to how hard the players have worked and how well they have done and how motivated they are to keep improving. That improvement is important to us.
“We have 18 points still to play for and we will be doing our best to win as many of them as possible.”
