"that’s what dreams are made of"

It was an afternoon Jack MacKenzie won’t forget in a hurry after his late goal claimed all three points at Livingston. “For me to score my first senior goal for the club and for it to be a last minute winner, that’s what dreams are made of. I just cut inside and thought, “I may as well have a go!” The old cliché is if you don’t buy a ticket you won’t win the raffle, but fortunately I bought the winner.

“I thought I hit it quite well but it was going straight at the goalkeeper, then he dropped it into the net, so I’m not complaining – I think it’s the first goal I’ve scored for about five years!

“We were never really at it in the first half but we came out with a different attitude in the second half and took the game to them. I think we deserved the win in the end.

“We’ve reacted well to setbacks so far this season, which is encouraging. We lost two goals quickly last Thursday and could have crumbled but instead we came back and won that game, and then we’ve come from behind to win today.

“Being behind here at half-time, Livingston isn’t an easy place to play football, it’s a tough pitch and they are a hard team to play against, so we could have let the heads go down. Instead we dug in and kept going until we got the win.

“The manger rotated the team quite a bit from Thursday so we were all raring to go, but we just started a bit slowly and couldn’t really pick it up until after the break. I think it shows the strength of the squad, to make so many changes away from home and still come away with the win.

“We’ve got a lot of good players and we all know that if you put in a bad performance, you can be out of the team. My aim is to keep learning, keep improving and hopefully get a lot more games.

“It’s been a positive start to the season, in Europe and now in the league as well, but that’s all it is. If we want to have a successful season, we need to keep that going and keep being consistent. We need to play at the level we did in the second half for 90 minutes.”
