“It wasn't the most enjoyable game to watch or play in.
“We knew that St Johnstone would try and stop us playing and contest the game. We worked this week on combating that and trying to be productive going forward but it just didn't materialise.
“I think their game plan succeeded more than ours. We’ll definitely look at it as two points dropped . “They're a difficult side for anybody, they don't get the credit they deserve. They're effective and they're always a top six side pushing for Europe. As well as being strong defensively they do have some good players that can punish you as we nearly learnt today, Joe (Lewis) makes the save from David (Wotherspoon)'s free kick. They also had a few breaks where they will think they maybe should have done better.
“There's not a massive contrast (from Tuesday night v Kilmarnock) as it's not like we won a cup final on Tuesday and lost today. We just need to get on with it, we can’t dwell on it considering we have another game coming up on Tuesday.
“It's still the middle of December. It is a long season. There's still 20 or so games to play give or take a few, there's a lot of points to play for. The way we set about it we want to win every game, Tuesday is another game that we'll try and win against Motherwell and try and win the three points.
“We know that at a club like Aberdeen, three points is the only acceptable outcome.
“Our target was three homes, three wins. We know that is impossible now, but it was a tough game today. if we win on Tuesday and pick up seven points from nine, we might look back later in the season and think it was not such a bad week.
“When teams come to Pittodrie they set out in a certain way to play. There are not many teams who are going to come and play expansive football. Kilmarnock tried to but we were fairly comfortable after we got the first goal. Teams are going to sit in and protect what they have.
“The manager and the coaching team are already looking at how Motherwell play and how we could exploit them and try and get three points, as they do with every other game. Obviously there is not as much time to prepare given the fixture list but the next couple of days will be spent working towards Tuesday night.”
