The Dons were made to pay for a lacklustre first half when David McMillan headed home directly from a corner after poor marking inside the area. The visitors were a lot livelier in the second period and after spell of concerted pressure, Niall McGinn equalised when he curled in a brilliant free kick.

Joe Lewis made an excellent save from Alston before Aberdeen pushed hard for a winner. They had chances and in the final minute Gary Mackay-Steven went down inside the area but the penalty appeals were waved away by Willie Collum who was well positioned.
