We are in a good position. If you had said to us at the start of the season with six games to go we would be sitting second we would have taken that! Especially considering what had happened in previous seasons. “You would far rather we had this compared with the situation last season when we came in and there was nothing to play for. We have six league games left and a cup semi-final to look forward to.

“The games are coming think and fast at the moment.

“We got the boys back in today to start preparing for Monday night.

“We are pleased that we are in charge of our own destiny (regards to second spot). We have got ourselves into this position, it is up to us to make sure we stay there. We will continue to fight and battle during every game.

“We were fighting on three fronts, which is now down to two with the League Cup won.

“It is what we have been saying all season, we just need to take one game at a time. There is no more important game than the next one.

“I have watched the game against Hearts back a few times now. The only criticism I would have is that we did not finish them off. We were a little wasteful in front of goal. We did not score when we were on top. When you do that you are always allowing the other team a chance to come back into the game. That game has gone now though. We got a point which got us back into second spot.

“We will do all we can to win on Monday but a lot of teams are scrapping for points, you saw that the other night. Hibs are also fighting for points so I expect it to be a very tough encounter. Every time we play a game against a team managed by Terry (Butcher) and Mo (Malpas) it is the same. We will do everything we can to leave a difficult venue with three points.

“The players have been great. In our last twelve games we have won eight, drawn three and lost one. There is a winning mentality within the squad. I can’t praise the players highly enough. Injuries have not held them back, there is a real mentality to go and win games.

“The fans have also been great. The travelling support has been fantastic and they really are a twelfth-man. They are a massive help. They have been instrumental in the success we have had this season. They were fantastic on Wednesday, even when we lost the goal and at the end of the game.

“There are no new injuries. Peter Pawlett came through 70 minutes and although he was tired he is fine. It was great to see him back. Jonny Hayes is making a decent recovery. He is progressing better than we thought.”
