SIMON CHURCH
“I know players say when they arrive at a new club that it is a good dressing room, but I can honestly say that about the one here. It is a really good group of boys and everyone at the club – the players, the staff, the management team and the fans have made me very welcome.
“The supporters have been brilliant and I really appreciate that.
“I feel that I have fitted in straight away.
“Although I was only here for a day before playing the Celtic game, it is something I have had to do before. I have been around long enough to know what goes on in football. I know you can be playing for one club one day and another the next.
“It was obviously a big change coming up to a different league but everyone as I say has helped me fit in.
“I have obviously come here to try and play and was thankful I got my opportunity straight away against Celtic. It was the perfect start. As a striker it was good to get the goal to get me started. It was even better to get the result.
“When you are put straight in like that it is difficult because you don’t know how everyone plays around you, about all the different tactics etc but the manager was great with me and told me everything I needed to know. He told me how he wanted me to play and what my job was. Games like that, sometimes the best way is to be thrown in at the deep end.
“I want to be scoring as much as I can when I am up here so to get off the mark so quickly was great.
“It was not one of my best goals but I will take it! I could not believe when I turned round and no one was really celebrating with me! I made sure I went over to the referee to make sure he put my name down! Kenny and myself had a laugh about it afterwards.
“The goal against Celtic was nice but at the end of the day I am here for another 12 games. I want to make a bigger impression by scoring as many goals as I can between now and then and help the team do as well as we can.
“For me personally and for the team Monday was a disappointing night. But that is gone now. Lucky we have another game around the corner. That is a good thing as we have had to get the Inverness game out of our heads and focus on Friday. We move onto the next one and look to get the three points.
“In England I am used to playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday so I am used to forgetting about the last match and moving on. Also when you have a lot of fixtures you just take one game at a time. It is something we did at Reading. It is something everyone does here as well.
“That next game is Partick Thistle on Friday night.”
