“There was not really one deciding factor, I just had to put a lot of thought into it to make sure it was the right decision for me and my family. I did not want to rush into anything and that is why it took longer than it might otherwise have. “I am happy with the deal I got and I am very happy to stay at Aberdeen. I will be honest and say it was a hard choice, it was not taken lightly but I feel the right one. “I felt it was the right thing to do. My family will always be there for me. I get enough time to see my family during the week.

“Although there maybe was not one major deciding major, playing in Europe again was certainly one of them.

“I have played in the Europa League the last two seasons now and it something I really like. I enjoy travelling to different places, playing against different teams and different styles of football.

“It means we get a shorter summer break but it is well worth it when you experience games like the Rijeka one in Croatia. That was a great feeling. That is why you play the game, for nights like that.

“There was interest from other clubs, there may have been more interest at the end of the season, but those clubs did not provide European football.

“I could have maybe earned more money down south but I am happy here so why move?

“In the two and half years I have been here everyone at the club has been very positive towards me.

“I am happy with the fans. I am happy with the manager. He is the best manager I have worked under. His man management has been very good. He has looked after me and he is a reason why I am staying. He has done very well here.

“There is a real buzz around this city when it comes to football. Everyone wants to stop and speak to you. Everyone is very passionate about the club. That is another reason I wanted to stay. Everyone in Scotland is very passionate about the game, which is a good thing.

“Winning the League Cup final was the best day of my career and that experience is certainly something I want to do again. Things have not worked out for us this season as far as silverware is concerned but there is always next season. I am definitely looking forward to the new campaign.

“We have a very good team. The manager has a number of players tied to long term contracts. I am sure he will also add a few more to the squad over the summer. I am confident as a team we will push on again next season.

“Hopefully me signing a new deal is a positive thing for the club.”
