Shay was full of praise for the Red Army. “Even although we lost the four games to Celtic last season, most of those games could have gone either way. On Saturday it was another close game that could have gone either way but in my opinion I thought we deserved the win in the end. “We as a squad know the character that is in the dressing room. Shay Logan spoke to www.afc.co.uk this afternoon ahead of the Hamilton game on Tuesday and started by looking back at Saturday’s win.

We have a lot of belief especially at home. We went into the game on Saturday knowing we could win and we knew if we performed the way we can do we could get a positive result. It was a very tough game as we knew it would be. Celtic have got good players and a good structure but so have we. Every player played their part.

“I thought the supporters were also outstanding on Saturday. I have a lot of time for the fans. They give me a lot of support. When they are singing there is only one Shay Logan it gives you good vibes going into and during the game.

“The crowd really came into their own when we went down to ten men. They helped lift the players and helped keep up our energy levels. They played a big part in the win. I know they enjoyed the win as did the players but at the end of the day it was just another three points. We have another game against Hamilton on Tuesday which is another three points. You don’t get more points for beating the Champions.

“We were back in training on Sunday morning and were training hard today ahead of the game tomorrow. The manager makes us focus on every game. The game tomorrow night is the only thing that matters.

“I was not aware of the history and the fact winning six games in a row was the best the club had ever achieved at the start of a season. It was not something the players spoke about in the dressing room. I did not know till the manager mentioned it after the game. It is nice to have done that and long may it continue.

“I said after the Dundee United game it meant we had three more points than we had at this stage last season. Now we have 18 points where after six games last season we had nine points. So that is a big improvement. That is what we are continuing to look for, that improvement.

“As a defender only conceding two goals in those six games is pleasing. There is not one thing that has been the catalyst for our good defending but I believe a big part of it is down to the preparation the manager puts into each game. In the week leading up to the game our training is tailored to who we are playing. We will do specific things for that game. We take one game at a time.

“And the manager does it for every single game. It does not matter who we are playing. The same preparation went into the Viking game as did the Celtic game. The same preparation will go into the Hamilton game despite only having three days between games. All of the coaching staff work very hard behind the scenes.

“All the defenders have played well. Ash has been outstanding. He’s became a good player since I have taken him under my wing! No seriously he is a very good player and I have a lot of time for Ash. “I remember after his first couple of games for the club where he was getting a bit of stick from some quarters but I had seen him play before and I knew what he was capable of. We have formed a good partnership on the right hand side. I think we work well together.

“Danny Ward has done exceptionally well. He has fitted in very quickly which is not always easy to do at a new club. He is a good character to have around the dressing room and is a very good goalkeeper. Liverpool obviously think very highly of Danny and the fans have seen why they think so highly of him.

“There is good competition for places in the defence as there is throughout the team. Ryan McLaughlin has come in which is good. Competition for places is important throughout the team and the right back spot was maybe the one area where there was not a lot of options.”

One of Shay’s fellow defenders was recently on the receiving end of some stick from the right back. During his RedTV summarising stint, (before his he was pinched by Sky Sports!…) Captain Mark Reynolds made a slightly critical remark about Shay during the game which did not impress Shay’s Nan!

“My Nan is my biggest supporter. She always keeps tabs on how I am doing and is a subscriber to RedTV. She tells me if anyone is saying anything about me! She was listening to a game on RedTV and she said ‘that Mark Reynolds talks a lot. He was saying this about you!’ So I had a little word with Mark! We had a good laugh about it.

“Please give her a mention. Her name is Linda Logan. She is tremendous. She was the one who first took me to football matches when I was seven years old. She bought me my first pair of football boots and took me everywhere that I needed to go so I could play games. I am very grateful for all she has done for me.”
