RedTV Interview
Shay Logan will put pen to paper on a two year deal at the start of July after signing a pre-contract at Pittodrie this morning. As soon as the paperwork had been finalised the Dons new defender spoke to RedTV:
“The main reason I signed was because of how much I enjoyed it last season. It was a bitter end to the season but apart from that it was a very enjoyable experience.
“The manager was a factor. And Tony Docherty as well. Both of them made me feel really welcome from day one. The gaffer is a top bloke and I have a lot of time for him. He gave me a chance up here and I owed him something for that. After two and a half years at Brentford I was not really involved so it was great that I got an opportunity to play week in week out.
“The fans as well are a big reason for me returning. They have been great to me. They have given me a lot of support. There have been a lot of tweets wishing me well and asking me to come back. I have had a lot of people coming up to me in the street as well. They have been very very positive towards me. I really appreciate the support they have given me.
“Hopefully there will be much more for the fans to enjoy next season. That is why you play football, for the fans. They pay their hard earned money after working hard all week then come to the football on a Saturday. They have a right when they think you are not trying hard enough. I definitely think there will be more highs to enjoy for them next season.
“European football was also a factor. When I was with Manchester City I was on the bench for a European game against Hamburg. That was a great experience so I am looking forward to hopefully playing this time.
“I would like think what happened on the final day of the season will drive the boys on in the league. The reason I say this is because I can give an example. It happened to me two seasons ago at Brentford when we missed a penalty in the last minute of the final game of the season and Doncaster then went straight up the other end and scored and got promoted. We then lost out in the play-off final at Wembley. I could not believe that it could happen two season in a row to me! Brentford then went on and won promotion this season so I know it will drive the boys on because I know it spurred me on.
“Also the cup success brought so much to the club and the city, it would be great if we could repeat that success next season. It is certainly something I would like to experience again.”
