Jimmy Thelin was able to enjoy the winning feeling again after Aberdeen beat Elgin City 3-0 to progress into the next round of the Scottish Cup.
“Elgin started really well. In the first half they pushed us a lot and they were dangerous in the situations around our box. They were almost through our back line and we were a little bit in trouble there. The second half, in the end we got more rhythm and got better and created more and more chances. But still they were dangerous in the transitions.
“I like the cup games because here or in Sweden, it’s always the same. You come into this stadium, you feel the passion of football. Teams from different levels are playing. It’s a special atmosphere in these games and there’s so much passion about football, very emotional. It’s always tricky. That’s why if you don’t go 100%, the gap is not so big. You have to be there all the time. You can’t give away too much in this game because then they get even more energy and then the game can be tricky. It was a good test for us and we are so happy that we are through.
“I like the spirit of Elgin, because they never give up, they fight till the end. Even after the first goal Elgin stayed in the game. I’m really impressed how they pushed and the way they worked. We talked at half-time, we have to take some big steps now, otherwise this game can be a really tricky second half. Some parts were much better after that. We started creating more and more chances. It was more clear how we worked together and that was good to see.
“We had to be 100% fully concentrated and give everything we have. It was a tough game, but I’m happy with the chances we created and how we created the chances. And also, of course, that we are through to the next round and how we could finally celebrate with our supporters again. It was a nice feeling. It was a while ago when we won a game, but for me, even in tough times, you have to be stable and keep the direction. Even though we win today, we know we have a lot of things still to keep working on, to focus on.”
