Scott Booth: Queen’s Park Reaction

Scott

Scott Booth shared his thoughts after Aberdeen Women beat Queen’s Park 5-0 in the SWPL 1 Play-off Final.

“I thought there’s always a degree of apprehension when you come into a play-off game because it’s a one-off match. But I felt the players had the right amount of desire, hunger, and willingness to put into practice the things we’ve been doing much better in recent games.

“I think that was really the difference tonight. There were some good goals in there, but our work rate out of possession was excellent as well. We stressed to the players over the last couple of weeks that we would need that intensity and that we had to put a team like Queen’s Park, who like to play football, under real pressure when they had the ball.

“I think it’s an indication of what this squad can achieve. If they were allowed to stay together for a couple of seasons, without a doubt the squad would continue to grow and you’d see more performances like this.

“I’ve got to give Queen’s Park credit as well. They’ve had a really hard run and put in a massive shift here tonight.

“But I think we finally showed what this squad is capable of. As I’ve said before, it’s really important that young players are given the right amount of time to develop. If you’ve watched this squad all season, you can see where mistakes have been made and where they need to improve.

“But you can also see that they’ve grown into more experienced players, and that’s a big part of football.

“When you have probably the youngest squad in the league, gaining that experience is crucial.”
