AFC Women manager Scott Booth shared his thoughts following his sides 2-1 loss at Montrose.
"I thought in the first half we did well in the main. We competed well with Montrose. We created one or two good possibilities and, after getting the goal, I felt we limited them to very few chances. “We knew the second half would be a different game because they had the strong wind for them, and that suits the way Montrose play, the way their game is.
“The message to the players is: you have to give absolutely everything. “That means every training session, and means what you do away from Cormack Park. “When you have the chance to look at your performances, see what you need to improve, you need to do it properly, every player needs to do so you can get that edge. “When you look at today and a number of games this season, it’s been about having that edge, a bit of game savvy. “For example, when you’re 1–0 up with less than 10 minutes to go, or even less than that, you need to see the game out. “You need to make sure your body is in a position that means the opposition cannot take the ball off you easily. If they do, you get the free-kick, it can’t be easy to take the ball and produce something from it. “You clear the ball, and you get set up. Those are the moments where don’t have the savvy late on in games, which is what we need to understand, and try and find it. “If you don’t have that game savvy, it will be costly to the team, so you have to change that. “You have to look at yourself in the mirror, and understand individually whether you are doing everything you possibly can to produce on the day. “This is a young squad, they have to continually learn, the majority are under 20, and most are having to fight for their life at the bottom for the first time. “To do that, you need every little bit of detail you can find from anywhere. You also need to be honest with yourself and think, could I have done better there? These are all things that football players have to do to grow as a player. “You can either do that, or you can ignore it and go the other way, and hope it goes better the next time, hope it goes for you. You need to work for everything you get in this game, you need to make sure you are ticking all the boxes all the time. “If you’re not prepared to do that, then you shouldn’t be playing football, that is what it is all about. You’re a young player, you have a lot to learn, learn from your mistakes. “That is one thing that has cost us in numerous games this season, making the same mistakes. “I talk a lot about individual errors, but the way you reduce individual errors is by going away and having a look at it, learning from it, and making sure that it doesn’t happen again. “That’s what we need from now until the end of the season, everyone to give absolutely everything. And then at least then we can say we’ve done that. “But up to this point, we have made mistakes individually and collectively, we’ve not had the game savvy at the end of games, and we need to find a way to stay in games, to give us a chance to win games, because right now teams are doing the opposite to us. "
