“Saturday was not good enough. Right across the board we were not good enough.
“Credit to St Johnstone, I think every time they had a chance they scored. Every time we tried to get back into the game we conceded again. It was just one of those days but we were not good enough.
“We have to get back to basics. Our main quality this season has been not giving anything away. And then at the top end of the pitch being clinical when we have had chances. That is what we are. A solid defensive unit as a team. We have to get back to training this week and get back to basics.
“Hopefully we can put things right against Ross County.
“We have come a long under the manger and I personally feel I have a long way. Without being disrespectful to St Johnstone, we should not be losing 5-1 at home. All the players know that. We know we let people down.
“We don’t mean to go out and put in a performance like that, having so many of us having an off day.
“As captain it is my job to keep the boys positive and to make sure everyone works hard over the international break so we are ready for Ross County.
“Get beat 5-1 at home is not going to do your confidence any good. I realise that. It is therefore important we get back in amongst each other as soon as possible. We need to train well. We have to keep things positive and look ahead to the next game.
“We have shown this season we can deal with the greater expectation levels. We went into the Celtic game with a lot of pressure and won that.
“After a result like that you want to go and play as soon as possible to put things right so in some ways the international break has come at a bad time. But we can’t so there is no point in worrying about that. We have extra time in training now to put things right.
“There is not hiding the fact it was a very disappointing. If someone had said at the start of the season we would be going into this international break at the top of the table we would have taken it, but that does not make the result any less disappointing.”
