After that we will see what happens. “It is good news Barry (Robson) is coming back as well. “I am very pleased to have signed a new deal, especially off the back of a good season. It was great to be offered a new contract. As I say for the most part it was a very enjoyable season and I am looking forward to having a go at one more year. After that we will see what happens.

“It is good news Barry (Robson) is coming back as well. His experience and his winning mentality and his professionalism is good for the younger players to see around the club.

“I was pleased with the amount of games I played last year. It was good playing in the team and playing alongside Mark (Reynolds) who had an exceptional season. He was very good at covering me! We have a good understanding and that comes from playing games together and getting to know how each other plays. Jamie (Langfield) as well played very well and for much of the season we had a settled back four which helped.

“The manner of the defeat on Sunday was hard to take. It wasn’t to be though. I felt we deserved more on the day but these things happen in football and the important thing now is how you react and how you get yourself up for the following season. We have to use it as a motivation to improve next year. We have improved on a lot of fronts and hopefully we can continue that improvement.

“The manager will be looking to improve the team over the summer. There are areas we need to improve. I know he will be busy at the moment trying to recruit players to complement those already here.

“It was nice to reach my 400th game on Sunday, it was lost a bit with everything else that was going on but it will be something nice to look back on in years to come. When I first came back to the club I was not sure how many games I would play, if any.

“I am looking forward now to going away on holiday and then coming back and preparing properly for the start of the new campaign.”
