Match summary:
After an incredible and enthralling match in the Highlands, Aberdeen triumphed despite a second half fight back from Inverness. The Dons led 4-0 at half time thanks to a double from Barry Robson, followed by great strikes from Peter Pawlett and Niall McGinn during a sublime 25 minute spell.
Robson’s first came from the penalty spot after Josh Meekings handled a cross into the box and Robson stepped up and fired powerfully past Dean Brill who guessed the right direction but couldn’t get near the kick. The second came on 31 minutes- Pawlett swinging in a looping cross which Robson got enough on to send it past the Caley goalkeeper.
The third arrived 6 minutes later when Vernon found Pawlett, who finished expertly after a fantastic break by the visitors. Then Niall McGinn fired low past Brill after a long run just before the half time interval to send the Dons in at half time four goals to the good.
Just after the break, Billy McKay scored two goals on 46 & 55 minutes as Caley looked to get themselves back into the game and the final few minutes of the game were nervy for the visitors when Shinnie headed the ball home to make it 3-4. Mark Reynolds had earlier been stretchered off after an awkward fall on 61 minutes and Draper had hit the bar on 65′. The Dons held on to record an important victory that moves them into joint second place in the SPFL Premiership ahead of a vital few weeks over the Festive Period.
