Summary:

Aberdeen claimed a place in the Scottish Cup Semi-Final’s despite a very spirited and organised performance from Dumbarton. Possession was even in the first half but there were few chances for either side. Barry Robson tried various efforts and saw an early header saved by Grindlay. Cammy Smith had the best opening but his left footed shot was well blocked by Graham. At the other end there were a couple of nervy moments with Langfield twice being forced into saves.

The visitors deserved credit for setting out with such an attacking formation and at the start of the second half they had three good opportunities to score. It was the Dons though who got the crucial first goal when Cammy Smith won a corner which Barry Robson played in and Adam Rooney rose well to head home. After that Aberdeen dominated and saw the majority of the ball and probably should have added to their lead. The Dumbarton players, who put so much effort into the game, seemed to be struggling with tiredness but despite this they still created one great chance in the final stages when an unmarked Paul McGinn headed the ball off the ground and over the bar.

The Dons though saw out the remainder of the game to move into the Semi Finals after another very professional performance.

Next up? The League Cup Final!
