“After the game against Inverness on Saturday Archie and I have had a ‘video nasty’ session with the players who are well aware of our feelings on the game. I am absolutely certain there will be no repetition because there is a lot to play for in the remaining part of this eventful season. There is no need to be too despondent because we know how well we are capable of playing.

“One pleasing aspect from the playing side is that half of our injured men are well on the way to recovery. We are still without season long casualties Andy Considine and Chris Clark but hopefully soon we’ll have the return of Gary Naysmith and Ryan Jack. Both should be back training with the ball next week. Better still is that our three midfield men who were missing in recent times are fully fit and available. It will be good to have the provision of Stephen Hughes, Rob Milsom and Isaac Osbourne for the remainder of the season and certainly for Sunday’s difficult assignment.

“We welcome Hibernian on Sunday, a team with whom we have had close encounters in recent times and a team we have to play in the Scottish Cup next week. These two matches will be very important for both of us and so we hope to increase the optimism for the Cup match with a good performance on Sunday. Both games are very different and we will treat them that way.

“Our last game at Pittodrie was well attended and our fans displayed commendable enthusiasm so I would ask you to be as vociferous on Sunday and hopefully we’ll not be in a position that we were in that match of having to come from a goal down to get back in to the game.

“I am constantly asked about new signings but we genuinely feel we have quality here on the staff but that does not prevent us from trying to enhance the playing quality. The disappointing departure of Ryan Fraser has prompted us to recall Peter Pawlett from his successful loan spell at St Johnstone but I spoke with Peter and in all sincerity indicated to him that whether or not Ryan had left he was being invited back to help us have a resoundingly productive end to the season. We’ll need all hands on deck and Peter Pawlett is a talented young man who proved that in his games for the Perth side.”

“The one good thing about football is that there are always games coming thick and fast and you have the chance to rectify a poor result which it was on Saturday and we were massively disappointed the way the second half went.

“Watching the game back I thought we did ok first half but the second half was not good enough. It is important you watch the games back, it is probably more important when you don’t do well because you can discuss and rectify mistakes you see on screen. You know during a game when things have not gone well but it really hits home on the big screen and hopefully we can stop mistakes like that happening again.

“It was a disappointing result but we are still in a decent enough position and if we can string a few results together we can get back up there. It is a huge week coming up with the two league games and the cup match which will be massive. If we can get some good results it will really set us up nicely for the last part of the season.

“Hibs are a dangerous side with some good players. Leigh Griffiths has been outstanding but they have other good players as well. It is not just about stopping him.

“I am enjoying my football at the moment. I have pretty much played every game or and been involved in every training session. Overall it has been a decent season but I want to make it a really good one.

“The body has held up well and I am not ready to retire yet. I would like to play on for one more season at least. Whether it will be here or not we will just have to wait and see but I would love to stay. I have loved my time here and I would love to have one last year at Pittodrie.”

“It was a really disappointing return to action after the winter break up at Inverness last weekend, so that makes Sunday’s game even more important because with Hibs just above us in fourth place, we can’t afford to drop further behind them, never mind Caley Thistle or Motherwell.

“The table is still incredibly tight for this stage of the season and a lot will depend on which teams can hit a good run over the next ten matches as we get to the split. On paper, we should be in a good position there because we have six games at Pittodrie including Sunday and only four on the road so there is a real opportunity there for us to try and grab, but we have to start getting results at home.

“What is encouraging is that we are starting to get a few players back from injury now and after the bad luck we’ve had earlier in the season on that front, hopefully we can get an injury free run through to May now. If we can do that, it will give us a real chance of finding the consistency that we will need if we are going to get into the top four and stay there.

“It is a pretty heavy fixture schedule in the next few weeks now that we’re back again, so it’s important that we had the likes of Rob Milson and Isaac Osbourne getting some time on the pitch last weekend because they can have a big part to play in things in the coming weeks because I’m sure the manager will be looking to use the squad with the number of games we have coming up.

“It is a massive week in the season with the trip to St Johnstone on Wednesday and then the cup tie at Easter Road next weekend, so hopefully we can start off on the right foot with a win on Sunday.”

“We did ok last week in the first half but as soon as they scored the first goal we did not get going again. The Hibs game is a chance to put our last result behind us and a chance to get a win in front of our home fans. With no football having been played at Pittodrie for a few weeks now, hopefully we will get a big crowd.

“It is a massive week coming up for the club and therefore important we start it off with a good result on Sunday. Everyone in the dressing room knows that we have to start defending better and also start taking our chances at the other end.

“I have started the last seven or eight games so it is good to get a run in the team and by playing every week it has allowed me to get some more consistency back into my game. I am starting to feel now that I am beginning to get back to my best form but there is still a lot more to come from me this season and I hope the fans get the opportunity to see that.”

Aberdeen v Hibs | the stats

In the early years of the Premier League it was Aberdeen who dominated clashes against Hibernian, winning almost half of the 88 matches played. Before the Premier came into force in 1975, the Easter Road side just edged the 118 clashes with 48 wins, two more that the Dons, although Aberdeen scored more goals during that period.

More recently in the SPL it is Aberdeen who have the superior record, at both Pittodrie and Easter Road. The Dons recent 1-0 win in Edinburgh edged Aberdeen ahead in the previous 26 clashes. The Dons will be going for a third successive win over Hibernian this season.
