Clydesdale Bank SPL | Pittodrie | 3.00pm | Attendance: 13,176 | FT
The Dons and United shared an entertaining draw at Pittodrie this afternoon in the first game of 2013 in front of a crowd of 13,176.
Aberdeen found themselves behind by 2 goals to 1 at half time. The Dons started the game on fire against a nervous United defence and could have three up but then they could also have gone in at the break further behind.
Scott Vernon had put the Dons deservedly in front on 11 minutes and the Dons continued to dominate until United were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Barry Douglas’ kick was eventually bundled into the net by Gavin Gunning to level the match on 21 minutes after poor defending and the home side fell behind on 33 minutes when a low cross from Russell was knocked into his own goal by Jamie Langfield. Clark Robertson had a good effort saved before the break and the Dons have had numerous other chances as well but so did United on the break.
After half time the Dons continued to dominate and on 54 minutes were awarded a free kick for a foul on Niall McGinn. He took the kick himself and curled it brilliantly past the United keeper to level the game and score goal 15 of the campaign. Aberdeen continued to put pressure on the visiting defence but couldn’t find a winner- Russell Anderson went close header, Cammy Smith had a shot at the near post and Niall McGinn had the final chance when put clean though but the ball would not sit kindly for him.
