Goal number nine for Rooney gives the Dons a point

Aberdeen 1 | Rooney 31′

St Johnstone 1 | May 7′

SPFL Scottish Premiership | Pittodrie | Att: 10,003 | 3pm | FT

Match summary:

Aberdeen and St Johnstone played out a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie in a game of few chances. The visitors took the lead on 7 minutes when a poor pass by Clark Robertson was intercepted by May who ran in on goal and fired low beyond Langfield. The home side responded well but created few clear chances but got themselves level on 31 minutes when a poor back pass from Frazer Wright was latched onto by Rooney who rounded Alan Mannus and prodded the ball home. A minute later, Hayes curled in a free kick which was tipped over by Mannus and the teams went in level at the break.

The second half was a stale affair with neither side creating too many chances. It wasn’t until the final 10 minutes when it livened up and The Dons were lucky to escape twice within a minute. A back pass was completely missed by Langfield who could only watch as the ball trundled inches past the post and from the resultant corner Steven Anderson headed just wide. The Dons raced up the field and Hayes tried an overhead kick which Mannus pushed away to safety and the game ended in another draw for the Dons.

So European qualification has still to be achieved.
